Torsten Hartmann graduated from Kiel University, Germany with a Ph.D. in Literature, Languages and Education. He is the author of several children's books published through Ensslin Publishing. Together with Silke Hartmann, he wrote 'Pacific High', a book about their sailing journey around the North Pacific.
In 2001 they established their own small publishing company, Kavenga Publishing. Torsten writes and illustrates children's books and Silke prints and hand-binds them. After many years in North Queensland they now live in Tasmania.
